What's Peplum?
A short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress.

¿Qué es?

Es una sobrefalda o volante corto unido a la cintura en chaquetas, blusas o vestidos.

Little history throughout the years - Pequeña historia a través de los años.

1800

In the 1800 century women used peplum in order to appear healthier, as broad silhouettes were sign of good feeding and capability of giving birth more easily.

En el siglo  XIX las mujeres usaban el peplum para parecer más sanas. Las mujeres más grandes aparentaban alimentarse mejor y tener mayor facilidad para dar a luz.

     

     1940                                                 1950

During the 40's and 50's decades it acquired its defining form. It was a sign of feminity that appeared on clasic articles with clean cuts, above all on jackets and blouses. Just like nowadays it emphasized the westline favoring "hourglass" silhouettes.

Resurgió en las décadas de los 40 y 50 donde adoptó su forma más característica. Era un signo de feminidad que aparecía en prendas clásicas de cortes limpios. Sobre todo en chaquetas y camisas, ya que como hoy en día acentuaba la cintura  favoreciendo la silueta "forma de reloj"

  

1980

Peplum continued popping here and there, but nothing as big as it has this year. It is nowadays the main trend for this spring and it will continue as it is at least during next fall 2012/2013.

El peplum siguió apareciendo de forma intermitente, hasta esta primavera del 2012. Ahora mismo es la tendencia predominante en todas las colecciones y lo seguirá siendo el próximo otoño. 

How is it worn? ¿Cómo se lleva?

Blouses and shirts:

Pairing them up with pencil skirts (no need to be knee length), skinny trousers or leggins. Watch out for the volume games. Wearing peplum with flared trousers will cause an strange silhouette. There is not much need of mixing the 40's with the '70 at all.

Camisas: 

Con faldas tubo de cualquier largo (no hace falta que sean a la rodilla) o pantalones pitillo o leggins. Atención a los juegos de volumen. Ponerte peplum con unos pantalones acampanados te dará una silueta algo extraña. Mezclar los 40 y los 70 no es lo más conveniente.

Jackets:

Wether it is to go to work or for a casual time out, using a peplum jacket you'll create a fresh new look that guarantees a sleek figure.

Chaquetas:

Tanto para trabajar añadiéndole un  cinturón estrecho, como de una forma más casual, crearás un look fresco y novedoso que te garantiza una silueta elegante.

Skirts:

Peplum can only be found on pencil skirts. As its aim is to emphasize the waist, wearing it on any other kind of skirt would leave its effect unseen. Pair these skirts with fitting shirts, blouses or even t-shirts, just so you keep the focus over the ruffle and not anywhere else. Above all, do not use the with shoulderpads, they aren't a trend anymore, thank God the '80's are finally gone!!

Faldas:

El peplum en faldas sólo se encuentra en las  de corte lápiz o tubo, puesto que en cualquier otro tipo el peplum casi no resaltaría. Intenta siempre que tanto camisetas como camisas  no sean exageradamente amplias pues lo que quieres es que el foco de atención sea tu cintura.  Sobretodo y aunque ya no se llevan apenas, evita las hombreras... los 80 se han ido ¡por fin!

Dresses:

A peplum drees it's an it article for any kind of night out. Difference lies on the length. A long, draped dress will give you a sofisticated image. While with a short one, you'll get a sultry laid-back air.

To me a must have this season is a peplum dress with some cutouts on the back.

Vestidos:

Un vestido con peplum es una prenda it para cualquier noche de  fiesta. La diferencia radica en la longitud. Largo y drapeado para lograr una imagen sofisticada; corto para lograr un aire más alegre. Para mí un must de esta primavera es un vestido corto con peplum y algún tipo de abertura, por ejemplo en la espalda.

Fabric covered frame.

So, yesterday I found this frame it was a gift from a friend (when I was a preteen or something like that) As it did not match any of the stuff I have around my room nowadays, I decided to start a DIY.

Ayer encontré este marco, un regalo de pre-adolescencia de alguna amiga. Como no pega con mi habitación y me daba pena tirarlo, decidí  empezar un "HTM" (hazlo tú mismo)

What do you need?

- An old frame (this one is made from cardboard paper) also foam with the frame's shape and size. 

- An old blanket or a piece of fabric of you liking.

- A ruler, a pencil and a pair of scissors.

- Textile adhesive and scotch.

¿Qué necesitas?

- Un marco antiguo (este es de cartón) y espuma con las medidas y forma de dicho marco.

- Un trozo de tela. Yo utilicé un trozo de sábana de hilo que encontré olvidado en casa.

- Una regla, un lápiz  y unas tijeras.

- Pegamento textil. 

      

1-. First detach the frame part from the base. Then, remove the old fabric (mine was glued too so it was pretty easy). 

2-. Take The cardboard frame and place it over the linen, draw it's shape leaving at least 4 mm in the inner and the outer part, this extra fabric will be folded. 

3-. Cut the linen according to the marks (I recommend you to draw the lines using a pencil or chalk and a ruler.)

1-. Despega el marco de la base. Quita la tela antigua (la de este marco estaba pegada, así que fue sencillísimo)

2-. Coge el cartón y repasa la silueta en la tela, dejando tanto en la parte exterior como en la interior 4 mm extra. Esta tela será la que dobles. Para hacer esto os recomiendo utilizar una regla. 

3-. Corta la tela según las marcas que has dibujado previamente.

       

4-. Apply the textile glue to the frame, take the foam and place it over the frame.

4-. Aplica pegamento al marco y coloca la esponja o foam.  

       

5-. Place the linen and glue it to the frame. I first did a trial and instead of glue I used scotch to measure the result and ad possible changes. Then I went for the glue. I started from the inner part, folding corners as I did when I covered books on my schooling days. 

6-. Take a spare part of clothing and press over the hems to wipe out the glue excess.

5-. Coloca la tela y pégala por la parte de atrás al marco. Primero hice una prueba, en vez de utilizar pegamento, usé celo, para ver el resultado y poder hacer variaciones o cambios. Después adherí la tela al marco empezando por la parte interna, doblando las esquinas como cuando forraba libros para el colegio.

       

7-. Leave it to dry for about 20 mins. Once this is down, glue the frame to the base and wait for another 20 minutes, placing some wiegh over the frame would be desirable so as to ensure the frame is correctly attached. And....  TA-DA!!! you have a brand new frame.

7-. Déjalo secar durante al menos 20 minutos. Una vez ha pasado este tiempo pega el nuevo marco a la base y  vuelve a dejarlo secar otros 20 minutos. Si puedes, ponle algo de peso encima, para asegurarte de que ambas partes quedan bien unidas. Y.... TA RÁ!!! Ya tienes un marco nuevo!

Aspirin facemask beauty tip.

I'm sure you all have heard about it, but just if you are doubting about givig it a try or not I'll say go for it! It is perfect for oily or mixed skins and the cost is under 5€.

I usually apply this facemask twice a month, or about 4/5 days before an important date as it may cause small spots or breakouts. 

Supongo que todo el mundo ha oído hablar de esto, pero sólo por si estáis dudando os digo adelante!! Es una mascarilla perfecta para pieles grasas o mixtas y su coste es menor de 5€. Normalmente utilizo esta mascarilla 2 veces al mes o  4ó 5 días antes de una fecha señalada, ya que normalmente al sacar la suciedad de los poros, causa granitos. 

How does it work?
Sylicilic acid it's contained on aspirin,  is a beta hydroxy acid that helps to slough dead cells and clears clogged pores and reduces the production of skin oil. While honey moistourizes the faceskin.

¿Cómo funciona? 

El ácido salicílico que contiene la aspirina, es un tipo de betahidroxiácido (el más común) que ayuda a  la piel a deshacerse de las células muertas y limpia los poros obstruidos reduciendo así la producción de grasa. Por otra parte, la miel hidrata la piel.

Recipie and how to apply it:

1-. Take 4 uncoated aspirin pill and place them on a plate
2-. Spring 2-3 drops of water to dissolve them, they will dissolve fast. This will help exfoliating your skin by removing dead cells. (Just for the record I reckon, the water on the pics is way to much)
3-. Add half a dessert spoon to the dissolved aspirin, use your fingers to mixed it all and get a grany paste.

1-. Coger 4 aspirinas normales (o su genérico).

2-. Reparte 2 o 3 gotas de agua (más o menos la mitad de una cuchara de postre) lo justo para deshacer las pastillas y no sobre agua. (El agua de las imágenes es demasiada)

3-. Añade una cucharilla de café de miel y con las manos (limpias) mezcla los ingredientes hasta que se forme una masa granulosa.

4-. Apply the mixture all over your face, AVOIDING EYE AREA, with circular movements.
5-. Once it is all set, wait 15- 20 mins. Wash your face after with warm water and a towel (I usually use my hands only). You should feel your face skin smooth as ever.
6-. Apply your moistourizing cream. (I do also apply Sephora's primer to be sure pores are sealed longer. Before the moistourizing cream)

4-. Aplica la mezcla por la cara (salvo el área de los ojos) con movimientos circulares.

5-. Espera a que se seque y manténla de entre 15 a 20 minutos. Lávate la cara con agua tibia. Sentirás la piel muy suave al tacto.

6-.  Aplícate la crema hidratante (Normalmente antes de la crema me echo el primer de Sephora, para asegurarme de que los poros permanecen limpios más tiempo)

Be warned: You should not use this facemask if you are allergic to salicylic acid.

 Atención: No utilices esta mascarilla si eres alérgico al ácido acetilsalicídico.

Breakfast at Poète's

During last Madrid's Fashion week me along with some other bloggers were invited by Poète to a breakfast in order to see this srping/summer collection.

Durante la pasada semana de la moda de Madrid, la casa Poète me invitó a desayunar con la diseñadora Berta Martín, para mostrarme a mí y a otras bloggers su colección Primavera / Verano 2012. 

  

Collection's filled with colourful romantic designs. Combining the French "savoire faire" along with londoner vintage style. In between coffee and Macarons served by "Mallorca" cartering. We discovered what Berta Martin (Poète's designer) had in mind for this season: round necklines, peter-pan necks, skirts and dresses with hip cuts.

La colección está llena de diseños coloridos y románticos. Savoire faire francés en perfecta sintonía con el Vintage Londinense. Entre cafés y macarons típicos de La Durée, servidos por el Catering "Mallorca" pudimos comprobar lo que Poéte tiene preparado para este verano. Escotes redondos, cuellos "Peter-Pan" o bebé, vestidos y faldas con corte a la cadera.

Talking about colours, pastels are huge baby blue, soft pink or light green. Along with thetypical sailor stripped patterns (that this year will be mixed not only with red but also with orange) we found shorts, skirts and blouses with that retro resemblance from the 50's. The perfect sultry counterpoint to the inocence that stems from a woman dressed in such childish colours.

En cuanto a los colores, pastel azules, rosas o verde agua (como es norma esta temporada) junto con los típicos estampados marineros que este año se combinarán con naranja a parte del tan trillado rojo. Shorts, faldas y camisas de aire retro. Los 50 más presentes que nunca este verano. El contrapunto sensual a la mujer inocente que usa colores aniñados.

Sumer is not only about sailor patterns that's why Poète introduces flower maxidresses mixing turqoise or fuchsia colours with golden details.

Como no sólo de prints marineros vivimos en verano, Poète propone los clásicos maxivestidos con prints florales y tonos rompedores mezclando turquesas y corales con el color oro.

 

Poète house was founded with the idea of dressing up women who are femenin, romantic and delicate. Their shops, always little boutiques, smell like fresh flowers and are known for taking care of even the littlest detail. Here is a link to their webpage

Poète se crea con la intención de vestir a una mujer muy femenina, romántica y delicada. Sus tiendas (como se ve en las imágenes) son pequeñas boutiques en las que se cuida al máximo cada detalle y a sus clientas. A month ago Luli Grün crew got in touch with me to introduce me their eco-friendly brand of jewerllery.

This brand was born in 2007, after experimenting with spare clothing pieces and finding out it's main designing medium "clothe spirals"

This is how year after year Luli Grün along with Life Foundation Silvestre from Argentina are making designs to  consciousness-raising about ecological problems. And also as a way to give the nature back what we are taking from it. Stating in a different way every single entity campaing.

La marca nace en 2007 de forma casual, tras experimentar con retales de telas de descarte y encontrar el descubrimiento de su soporte fundamental: “los espirales de tela”

Es así como, año a año, junto a La Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina, se realizan diseños que buscan generar conciencia sobre las problemáticas ecológicas como un modo de devolver a la naturaleza lo que nos da, y que plasman y difunden de un modo no convencional diferentes campañas de la entidad.

The have different lines in which they use different techniques such as rolling, folding, constructing or deconstructing exploiting each material to the limit.

Poseen varias líneas extrapolando técnicas propias de la indumentaria para aplicarlas a la realización de sus diseños. Enrollando, plegando, construyendo y deconstruyendo, explotando las posibilidades de cada material.

Hacen desde collares, pendientes o pulseras hasta bolsos o relojes de mesa.  Desde el comienzo sus productos fueron realizados a partir de material de descarte de grandes marcas, lo que proporcionaba variedad y a la vez volumen para poder trabajar con catálogo y fundamentalmente ofrecer calidad.
